Melinda Sawyer

Melinda D. Sawyer, DrPH, MSN, RN, CNS-BC, FAAN, is Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer at UnitedHealth Group and an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine. With a career spanning over two decades, Sawyer has held pivotal roles in clinical care, patient safety, and quality improvement at institutions including The Johns Hopkins Hospital and UnitedHealthcare Global. She has contributed extensively to research, publishing numerous peer-reviewed articles on patient safety and quality improvement. Sawyer’s expertise in developing and implementing large-scale safety programs, mentoring future leaders, and driving organizational change has earned her recognition as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and technical expert for national and international panels. Her commitment to advancing healthcare reliability and safety is reflected in her leadership of enterprise-wide initiatives, educational program development, and advisory roles for organizations such as the OECD and AHRQ. Sawyer holds a Doctor of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
